11 days left to vacation...we haven't taken a vacation with the whole family in over 4 years and some days I wonder why we started with Disney instead of a nice week camping in the mountains. Beyond driving from Colorado to Florida, there's the sheer amount of stuff involved in taking a family of 4 anywhere. Because we wanted to make sure we have actual relaxing days, we are staying for 8 days in Florida, but we only bought 2 day Disney tickets. This gave us days for the beach on both the Gulf and Atlantic side, a day for Daytona so the kids can see the race track and a whole day with nothing planned ahead in case we hear about or see something down there that we really want to do.
It's also a relief that we split up some of the planning. I gave Don a dollar figure and we set up direct deposit to split off a small amount each paycheck to another account. He's then pushed any extra from our regular budget over there too. Periodically he'll bring out his planner and we'll go over whether we're on track. It's been a completely painless way to save for something that seemed huge when we laid it out. So when we drive away next Friday, we just switch debit cards to the "vacation" account. In turn, I set up the condo we're staying at, bought all the various tickets and took on the packing lists. That last one...to be honest, he wasn't going to make a list, but he sure likes having one to check off when we're loading the car!!
I'll try to get one more post in before we go, might even have sewing to report if this weekend goes better than last.
